General Practitioners, Nurses and Associates
Our Medical Practitioners are active in the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and attend post-graduate medical courses regularly. All staff have been trained along the guidelines of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Dr Clare Van Rooy
Graduated from Sydney University in 1984, and did her post-graduate training in Canberra. Dr Van Rooy completed her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and is a Quality Assurance Examiner for the RACGP. Dr Van Rooy's interests include office gynaecology, menopause, and geriatrics.
Dr Mark Peterson
Graduated from Newcastle University in 1984. Dr Peterson has a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), a Masters in Family Medicine from Monash University and a Certificate in Aviation Medicine. His interests are surgery, paediatrics and emergencies. Dr Peterson is a Quality Assurance Examiner for the RACGP, and a member of the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine.
Dr Stella Rumsey
Graduated from Adelaide University in 1989 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in February 1996. She completed a Graduate Certificate in Quality Improvement in Health Care through the University of Newcastle. Dr Rumsey's special interests are Preventative Health Care and Aged Care.
Dr Angela Lewis
Graduated from the University of NSW in 2008. Dr Lewis has a Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). From Newcastle originally, Angela has worked in Sydney, Port Macquarie, Launceston and Charlestown. Dr Lewis has a special interest in shared antenatal care.
Dr Simon McCluskey
Graduated from the University of NSW in 2009. He completed his internship in Launceston, Tasmania, and his residency in the John Hunter Hospital network. Dr McCluskey completed a Diploma in Child Health (U.Syd) and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). Simon’s interests include paediatrics and a broad range of general practice presentations.
Dr Renata Fuljahn (GP Registrar)
Dr Adam Moody
Graduated from University of Sydney (MBBS) and has Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). His interests are chronic disease, preventative health, men's health and Geriatric medicine.
Dr Georgina Girdler (GP Registrar)
Graduated from Wollongong University, 2015 and moved to Newcastle for internship and residency. She completed the Diploma in Child Health in 2017, undertook an Advanced Skills year in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2018 and completed the Diploma of Obstetrics (DRANZCOG) in 2018/19. Georgina’s interests include women’s and children’s health.
Dr Jason Maher (GP Registrar)
Graduated from University of Newcastle in 2016, before doing residency at Maitland Hospital. Had a prior 25 year career in nursing, being a Nurse Practitioner in emergency and primary health care. Presently a Registrar under RACGP, aiming for completion in early 2021. Professional interests include preventative health care, mental health, and family medicine.
Practice Nursing Staff include:
- Debbie Dufty trained at Royal Alexandria Children’s Hospital.
- Darlene Borgas, Nadine Dunne and Robyn Matthes trained at Avondale College in conjunction with S.A.H.
- Emma Nelson trained at the University of Newcastle.
- Robyn Matthes and Nadine Dunne are in charge of Health Assessments. All our nursing staff have a Certificate in Immunisation.
