What are the confidentiality obligations of medical practice?


Staff do not routinely read notes, and if they come across material in the course of their work, they are obliged as a condition of employment, not to divulge it’s content.

Loss of confidentiality is taken very seriously. At times, and with the patients permission, difficult or educational cases are discussed at internal clinical meetings in a respectful manner, as the patient may benefit from input from other professionals. We hope you might agree to this process if needed.

If there is any aspect of your medical history that you do not feel comfortable being included in a referral, it's best to point it out to your doctor. We refer to trusted clinicians and regard the letter as a useful help to your specialist.
